Dear COSEBOC friends and supporters,
On May 26 and 27, 2021, COSEBOC hosted an amazing and very successful celebration of 15 years of service on behalf of boys and young men of color. The theme, Sankofa Rising! The Journey from a Moment to Movement, infused the entire event from start to finish. There were so many cameo moments, so many memories, and so many opportunities within them to imagine a bright future for boys and young men of color. It was a time to recollect and reconnect; it was a time to both shed tears and to laugh out loud.
From start to finish, those in attendance heard about the seeds that were planted that grew into the COSEBOC organization. We heard from the genius of our youth in song and spoken word. We were revitalized by mini-manifestos from leading scholar activists and educators, and we heard a special message on relationships from Dr. Edmund Gordon, preeminent scholar of psychology, education, and African-American studies, who is soon to be a centenarian. The anniversary event was also a declaration that, if the mission to advance the affirmative social, emotional, cultural and academic development of boys and young men of color was urgent 15 years ago, it is still urgent today.
On behalf of the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color, I wish to express my sincere thanks to our sponsors and to everyone who attended and supported the COSEBOC 15th Anniversary Gathering, both by your donations and by your celebrating along with us. It is because of your encouragement and generosity that we continue to accelerate the Movement.
Respectfully,
Ron Walker
