Thinking Big in a Big City

By Paul Forbes, April 30, 2016: The Expanded Success Initiative (ESI) at the NYC Department of Education and the Office of the Mayor’sYoung Men’s Initiative (YMI) are excited to partner together and host the 10th Annual COSEBOCGathering of Leaders, “Framing the Narrative for Boys and Young Men of Color.”

For four years, ESI has been a critical component of YMI, a cross-agency enterprise that aims to transform the lives of New York City’s most vulnerable youth. Launched in 2011, YMI has been recognized as a national leader in creating citywide strategies, policies, and programs that improve life outcomes for young men of color across its four core areas: Criminal Justice, Unemployment, Education, and Health & Wellness. In pre-conference events and workshops during the Gathering of Leaders, ESI and YMI, and various offices and partner organizations within the NYC Department of Education (DOE) — the nation’s largest school district — will showcase their numerous accomplishments in schools across the city.
