The Black Principals Network (BPN) in partnership with COSEBOC is hosting a workshop series designed to present Rites of Passage through the lens of Hip-Hop Pedagogy and Hip-Hop Perspective. The workshops will take place for three consecutive Mondays from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The workshops are free but you must join the Black Principals Network (BPN) in order to access the workshops.
The Rites of Passage Workshop Series is a set of (3) two-hour workshops that are designed using several participatory teaching strategies so that participants will learn more through self and collective exploration and discovery than lecture. The participants will be introduced to the rites of passage framework through a Hip-Hop lens. The journey through the rites of passage framework will be examined in the context of select songs and videos as well as personal and professional reflections by the participants. The workshops will provide you the opportunity to listen, learn and lead with your fellow principals as you continue to operate in your school’s and your life’s continuous passages. A fundamental principle that will be delved into throughout this workshop series is the fact that you must change your perspective before you change your reality.

We invite you to take the time to examine your personal and professional journey in a space that will comprise the energy of your fellow principals and the principle of Sankofa. The workshops will challenge you to prepare, process and present as you learn about the six components of Rites of Passage. A unique feature of this training series is that the Rites of Passage will be presented with Hip-Hop as an exemplar. You will gain understanding and insight into Hip-Hop pedagogy and be introduced to the Hip-Hop perspective.
The workshops will take place on Mondays, March 15th, 22nd and 29th from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm EST. Please access the link below to learn more information about the workshop series. At the end of the page there is a link for you to access the form that must be completed to join the Black Principals Network (BPN). Once you join the network you will have access to join and participate in the workshops and other great materials within the network.
We hope to see you there so we can share and grow together.
