Discovering Rituals, Understanding Manhood (D.R.U.M.) Facilitator Course
As summer approaches, and many of us are winding down after a full and hectic academic year, COSEBOC offers a refreshing and impactful opportunity for men of color who work with middle and high school students. Discovering Rituals, Understanding Manhood (D.R.U.M.) introduces teams of male educators to the Rites of Passage experience and prepares them to incorporate the D.R.U.M. framework into their own program for boys and young men of color. This course is designed to provide a personal/professional rites of passage experience to men of color within your district’s schools and community partner organizations who work directly with boys and young men of color.

“This [course] is needed throughout the schools in our district. Many are struggling to connect to Black boys, and this would be tremendously helpful.”

NEXT VOICE is a series of short video clips that share the voices of participants from COSEBOC programs. Here we present a COSEBOC interview with Cambridge Public Schools, Chief Equity Officer, Dr. Manuel Fernandez. This is a compelling personal account of his own experience as a young student, and now as an educator of black and brown kids.

“We are failing miserably across this country, and it’s going to get worse particularly in states that are rolling back on all things that serve these populations. COSEBOC lifts that up, and D.R.U.M. provides a tool to address that.”

COSEBOC Spotlight

Behind the scenes at COSEBOC is a team of dedicated and passionate individuals, each contributing their genius to the COSEBOC mission. Every month our eNews will spotlight a member of our team, giving you the opportunity to glimpse more closely into the COSEBOC heart.

Brenda Artwell, COSEBOC

Today we introduce another of our team: Brenda G. Artwell. Brenda has been associated with COSEBOC since its inception in 2006. She was part of the seminal meeting where the idea of the Coalition was first born. Her commitment to COSEBOC’s mission has never wavered. Her roles have grown and expanded as COSEBOC flourished. Brenda has been engaged in and been passionate about education throughout her life. She has over four decades of experience serving as a teacher, curriculum and instruction specialist, principal, staff developer, and consultant. When you reach out to COSEBOC to speak about Summer Professional Development, you will be greeted by Brenda, and she will be there for you and all of your questions.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Brenda since 2007, and over all these years she has brought light and wisdom to all of our engagements, and she does so with infectious enthusiasm and joy. Brenda is truly a delight!”
