COSEBOC 10th Annual Gathering of Leaders

Framing the Narrative for Boys & Young Men of Color:

10 Years of Leadership & The Journey Ahead
May 18 - 21, 2016  |  New York City

Dear COSEBOC Village Members,

Thank you ALL for what has been a tremendous celebration of our 10th anniversary. On behalf of the #COSEBOC10 Planning Committee, I can't share enough appreciation for the hard work from our host partners, volunteers, presenters, speakers, sponsors and, of course, the amazing examples of budding manhood from across the country. From the pre-Gathering events with administrators, members, and board members, to our two full days of workshops and dynamic speakers, to our pivotal Saturday conversation on Trauma, #COSEBOC10 was simply outstanding.

NYC Javits Center

Back in 2006 when we started out with just 25 people at the first Gathering at Wheelock College, my mind could not have possibly conceived the brilliance and dedication that we would be able to assemble just 10 years later. But WE DID IT! With your help, we are making a difference in the lives of boys of color, and the annual convening and the networking that continues year-round are a testament to the good we've done. I, for one, feel blessed and humbled.

We hosted nearly 1,000 attendees at the 2016 Gathering of Leaders - wow! And to think, we're just scratching the surface of all of the educators and child advocates who can still benefit from the annual Gathering of Leaders and our year-round supports. Please keep in touch, look for new ways to get involved coming soon, and thank you again for joining us in New York City!

2017 COSEBOC 11th Annual Gathering of Leaders

COSEBOC is partnering with the NYC Department of Education’s Expanded Success Initiative (ESI) and NYC Mayor’s Office Young Men’s Initiative (YMI) to provide you with the most exciting, comprehensive, and invigorating Gathering of Leaders ever!

New York City is one of the country’s most diverse cities, it's most populous, and has been called the financial and cultural capital of the world. Among the wealth of resources that are exclusive to New York City, there are three in particular which align seamlessly to the work of COSEBOC and will combine to create a truly powerful experience for participants of the 2016 Gathering:

  1. The size and cultural diversity within the New York City public school system;
  2. The work of the Expanded Success Initiative and the overarching Young Men’s Initiative and partner organizations working within schools; and
  3. Access to New York’s world-class colleges and universities, which range from community colleges to four-year universities.

COSEBOC 10th Annual Gathering of Leaders: Join us in NYC!The Gathering of Leaders in NYC represents a celebration of the decade of work that COSEBOC has been doing as the only national education organization of practitioners solely focused on promoting the educational success of boys and young men of color. Since its inception, the mission of COSEBOC is to connect, inspire, support and strengthen school leaders dedicated to the social, emotional and academic development of boys and young men of color.

To commemorate our 10th anniversary, we will be adding new components to the Gathering that will enrich your experience. We will also feature some special members-only activities, so please consider becoming a member today!
