COSEBOC 2020 Fall and Winter Series | Equity: Front, Center, and Fulfilled
Liberating Education with Award-Winning Educator, Sharif El-Mekki
To everyone who has attended our previous six Virtual Gathering sessions, get ready for number seven! To those of you who have not yet participated, this seminar should not be missed! Sharif El-Mekki will address the topic of Liberating Education: what it is and how it can serve the education of students, particularly students of color, by liberating their Freedom Dreams.
We continue pressing forward to build an equitable education agenda for all students, especially those who have been traditionally dehumanized, marginalized, and underserved. Equity has been an elusive goal for many years, and COSEBOC believes that it must be front, center, and fulfilled to become a reality! This is why we are pleased to bring you virtual presentations that will equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to redesign and reimagine equitable learning environments in your schools, districts, and communities.
To this end, we are excited about our next presenter, Sharif El-Mekki, an award-winning educator and the founder and chief executive officer of The Center for Black Educator Development. Mr. El-Mekki will join us on December 10, 2020 to address the topic of Liberating Education: what it is and how it can serve the education of students, particularly students of color, by liberating their Freedom Dreams.
Mr. El-Mekki is the Founder and CEO of the Center for Black Educator Development. The Center exists to ensure there will be equity in the recruiting, training, hiring, and retention of quality educators that reflect the cultural backgrounds and share common socio-political interests of the students they serve. The Center also carries forth the freedom or liberation school legacy by hosting a Freedom School that incorporates research-based curricula and exposes high school and college students to the teaching profession to help fuel a pipeline of Black educators. Prior to founding the Center, El-Mekki served as a nationally recognized principal and U.S. Department of Education Principal Ambassador Fellow.
