Dr. Angela Ward: It’s time to use your influence for the liberation of school spaces!

Dr. Angela M. Ward is an antiracist educator, mother of 2 black boys and wife of a black husband. Profiled in Education Week as a 2019 Leader to Learn, Teaching Tolerance Magazine, Austin Woman’s Magazine and recipient of The Austin Area Urban League’s Founder’s Award, Dr. Ward manages the focus on Cultural Proficiency & Inclusiveness in a large urban school district and is motivated to study implications of the multiple relationships of education to culture, power, and society. In this role, she conducts research and collaborates to offer professional learning opportunities to implement a districtwide level of awareness and attention to issues of bias, bigotry, prejudice, discrimination and racism to eliminate disproportionality and disparities across the system. She directs, organizes and establishes systems and protocols for districtwide Restorative Practices and Culture and Climate innovation.

Prior to leading this effort as a district administrator, she served as campus administrator, teacher leader and classroom teacher. Dr. Ward facilitates dialogue, and advocates for liberating workplaces and school spaces focused toward issues of equity, inclusiveness and relationship building.
