Announcement: Fall release of the 4th edition of COSEBOC Standards and Promising Practices for Schools Educating Boys of Color

Dear Educator and Advocate,

COSEBOC is pleased to announce the release this fall of the 4th edition of our highly acclaimed document, Standards and Promising Practices for Schools Educating Boys of Color. In an era of high stakes testing and the Common Core State Standards, reaching expectations is important for all students. For educators of boys and young men of color, the COSEBOC Standards serve as the Uncommon Core that allows these educators to attend to the distinctive, unique and discernable academic and cultural needs and assets of diverse learners.

These Standards will remain a key benefit of COSEBOC membership. This tool will advance the national imperative of educating every student to their fullest potential and genius. It will inform and guide school and community leaders who are committed to the affirmative social, emotional, cultural, and academic development of boys and young men of color in particular by closing the gaps of opportunity and achievement that limit these students’ life outcomes.

In addition to the Standards, COSEBOC is excited to announce a new season and a new focus to our popular videoconference series – COSEBOC Conversations with Deep Thinkers. This season’s videoconferences will feature the authentic voices of young men along with the adults who helped them on their journey to manhood. The season is anchored to our 2019-20 theme – Boys and Young Men of Color: Learning from the Footprints of the Past, Taking Footsteps to the Future.

COSEBOC membership has its benefits. Working together we can help our boys, young men and every student soar to success. Please join the COSEBOC movement.

Sincerely,

Ron Walker
