A message from our Executive Director, Ron Walker

On July 18, 1918, the great Nelson Mandela was born. On the cover of COSEBOC’s 2018 Gathering of Leaders program book, Mandela represented the spirit of our theme, “Liberation, Empowerment and Education.” Mandela sacrificed and served as he catalyzed a movement to break the back of Apartheid. As COSEBOC continues to advance the affirmative social, emotional, cultural, and academic development of boys and young men of color, we will also encourage everyone who supports this mission to embrace Mandela as an iconic liberator for peace, freedom and justice.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Mandela’s birth, COSEBOC encourages you to share your thoughts on the following questions below and on your own social media:

  • What can the movement do to advance a positive narrative for boys and young men of color, using the life’s work of Nelson Mandela as inspiration?
  • As a boy or young man of color, what lessons learned from Nelson Mandela can I apply to my hopes, dreams and aspirations?

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela
