A Conspiracy of Care: A Call to Healing

A Conspiracy of Care: A Call to Healing

Throughout our 15-year history, COSEBOC has embraced the belief that affirmative social, emotional, cultural, and academic development and wellness is essential to the success of boys and young men of color. We wrap this mission in a concept that we call the Conspiracy of Care.

The Conspiracy of Care is our national call to mobilize and align the cumulative resources and assets of individuals, associations, and partnerships dedicated to school and life success for these young men.

Fittingly, since this is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we are choosing to launch this initiative with a video touching on this issue. In partnership with the National Center for School Mental Health (NCSMH) and with support from the Bainum Family Foundation, we have produced a video to shed light on the obstacles that impede the academic, social, and emotional life of school-aged boys and young men of color.

The video presents examples and ideas that, when instituted in schools and communities, can serve as the strategies and tools to heal, disrupt dehumanization, and enable boys and young men of color to move from trauma to triumph.

We have also created a supplementary resource guide complete with a video discussion worksheet, resource links, and a guide for terms expressed in the video. Follow this link to access both the video and the resource guide.

I encourage you to watch the video below, A Conspiracy of Care: A Call to Healing with your team and to share it with others. I am sure that it will inform your work and the actions you take to ensure healing and success for boys and young men of color.

We welcome and encourage any questions, comments, or other feedback you may have about the film or about other projects you and your team are tackling in similar efforts. We hope this is only the beginning of a nation-wide community initiative that will drive this vision forward.

Onward and upward,

Ron Walker
