To the parents of Trayvon Martin,
I know that though time is said to heal all wounds, the loss of a child may surely be the exception. On this the 3rd anniversary of the loss of your son Trayvon, on behalf of the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color, I send you both our prayers, well wishes and support. As a parent and a grandparent with grandsons, in Trayvons age range I can't imagine what it would feel like losing either of them.
I have followed the stories that have emerged over the three years and have seen both of you in public spaces. I want you to know that your grace and spirit of forgiveness and strength has been a powerful testimony and blessing to me and countless others who work to seek justice, equity and bright futures for black and brown boys and young men.
Both of you have assisted me in my journey in the service of our boys and young men. Your resolve to change the narrative that too often portrays our boys and young men in dark and dim lights has reinforced my determination to reverse that negative narrative as well. On this day, as Executive Director of the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color, I do pledge to do all that I can to see the day when our sons can fully experience the fruits of freedom, justice and anticipate a bright future free from injustice and discrimination. Please know that both of you are in my thoughts and prayers
In sincere support,
